December 9, 2006 — Barry’s out of the hospital and engrafting

Dear All,

Great news today. Barry’s blood is 80% donor and 20% his – excellent (chimerism) results.

He came home from the hospital yesterday after a harrowing 12 days. His shingles (zoster) became disseminated in his blood, a life-threatening condition, and there was some thought it might have gone to his brain. He had a brain MRI which came out clear. He is much better now. He’s on a pain medication regimen where he is lucid, out of pain, and functioning well. In addition to the disseminated zoster, he was overdosed one night on Dilaudid (a narcotic) by an inexperienced nurse who did not following protocols, so he had to go through withdrawal, not a pretty sight.

I expect he will post to his Web site, www.agauchepress.com, by sometime tomorrow.

Love,

Bonnie
