August 12, 2006 — Trip to Stanford Hospital instead of Montana

Dear Ones,

Barry ended up in the hospital last week with a serious infection (listeria) which led to early sepsis, a blood infection. His fever got as high as 105 and then dropped precipitously as did his blood pressure. He was very seriously ill and we are very grateful to the Stanford docs/nurses for saving his life. Mozzarella cheese was the culprit, and he is on a somewhat restricted diet until he gets a new immune system, hopefully this Fall. He is home now with a PICC line inserted and getting IV Ampicillin for about another week. He will be cured of this infection, but it was a wake-up call as to his disease state.

Love,

Bonnie
