Dear Family & Friends,
Things are looking good. Barry has completed two-thirds of his Campath treatment, and his blood work has been normal since week three. We drive down to Stanford three times a week for a shot in his abdomen. He gets blood taken every Monday and we see the doctor every two weeks. The doctor is very pleased with the results, and told us Barry is having “the best possible response”. When the treatment ends on July 28, we have a week off, then go to our yoga retreat in Montana (great timing!) and Barry will have a bone marrow biopsy when we return. It doesn’t matter if his blood work is normal — what matters is if the marrow has been affected by the treatment.
We meet with the Bone Marrow Transplant doctor in two weeks to start exploring that option, if it becomes necessary.
The side effects of the treatment for Barry have been extreme fatigue (many naps) and he has contracted two infections, both expected, and both treatable.
We have been trying to lead a quiet life during this 12 week, seemingly unending treatment period. We are watching a lot of comedy and movies, eating simply, going to our wonderful Saturday yoga class and both keeping up with our work lives as much as possible.
Thanks again for all of your love and support. It means the world.
With love and hope,
Bonnie
